Overview
Seven days across the Western Desert, from the White Desert to the green oasis of Dakhla. This is a real expedition: you drive through the Black and White Desert, follow the Abu Muharrik dune belt, one of the longest dune ridges in Egypt, and finish in Dakhla Oasis, with its mud-brick villages and hot springs.
The experience
We start in Cairo and drive to Bahariya Oasis, then through the Black Desert and the Crystal Mountain to the White Desert, where you camp among the chalk formations. From there we continue south to Farafra and enter the Abu Muharrik dunes. For two days you cross high golden dunes in 4×4 vehicles with an experienced Bedouin driver, stopping to walk, take photos and watch the sunset from the crest of a dune.
The dunes end near Dakhla Oasis. You spend a full day exploring the oasis: the old mud-brick town of Al Qasr, ancient temples, palm groves and natural hot springs. On the last day we drive back to Cairo.
Why choose this tour
- Three desert landscapes in one trip: black hills, white chalk and golden dunes.
- The Abu Muharrik dune belt: a part of the Sahara very few visitors ever see.
- Dakhla Oasis: old villages, temples and hot springs at the end of the journey.
- Bedouin guides and drivers: a team that knows the routes, the sand and the weather.
- Private and small: only your group, with a plan built around you.
Who it is for
Adventurous travellers, photographers and anyone who wants more than a short desert trip. You do not need special experience, but you should be ready for long days in a vehicle and several nights of camping. For a shorter trip, choose our 3-day White Desert camping tour.
