What to Bring on a Desert Camping Trip in Egypt

Bedouin desert camp in Egypt at night

A night in the desert is cold, quiet and very dark. Here is the short list of what to bring on a camping trip in Egypt’s White Desert, and what we take care of for you.

Why packing matters in the desert

Desert nights are cold, even after a warm day. On our trips you sleep in a Bedouin camp in the middle of the desert, with no electricity and no sockets anywhere, so a few simple items make the night much more comfortable.

The packing list

  • Hiking shoes and long trekking pants for walking on chalk, sand and rock.
  • Warm layers: jacket, beanie and gloves for the evening and the sunrise.
  • Sleeping bag, if we don’t supply one. We confirm this with you when we send your quote.
  • Headlamp and paper towels. Camp has no electric light.
  • Power bank for your phone, because there is nowhere to charge.
  • Water and snacks you like for the road and the camp.

What we provide

We handle the rest. Our trips usually include the round-trip transfer from Cairo, a 4×4 vehicle in the desert, all meals and drinks, camping equipment and Bedouin guides. On longer tours there is also a hotel night in Bahariya. We confirm the exact list with your quote.

Dinner at camp is chicken and grilled meat, with Bedouin tea and songs by the fire.
